Among the files which will be discussed between President Sarkozy and President Ben Ali, is the status of the Mediterranean Union. The project was first suggested by Nicols Sarkozy and deeply supported by President Ben Ali. Tunisia is wishing to hold the Headquarters of the General Secreatary of the new union. But there is a question which must be asked! When we talk about the Mediterranean sea, we talk about tens of countries among them Israel. I do not think that France or Europe will accept such union without inviting Israel and Palestinian Authority. And if Isreal will be part of the future union, will Arabs accept that? especially Tunisia, Syria, Lebanon, Libya and Algeria as only these countries which belong to the Mediterranean sea and to the Arab World which are still without no relationships with Israel but with the new project, will they accept to sit to same table as the Isreali delegation? If the Union will choose Tunis as its Headquarters, will we see the Israeli flag here in Tunis?
The Mediterranean Union will be seen as being an opportunity to establish Peace Process in the Middle East and as being an opportunity to create the Palestinian State. It is the same old music we are hearing since 1993.
يبحث الرئيس الفرنسي نيكولا ساركوزي خلال زيارته لتونس مع الرئيس بن علي مشروع الاتحاد من أجل المتوسط. الرئيس الفرنسي استطاع الحصول على دعم أوروبي لمشروعه مع تعديل طفيف. أما تونس فلقد كانت أولى الدول التي رحبت بالفكرة و قدمت دعما كاملا من أجل تحقيقها. و لكن ما نفع هذا الاتحاد؟ يرى عدد من المحللين أن الاتحاد من أجل المتوسط ليس سوى مشروع جديد سيبنى على أنقاض مسار برشلونة الأورو-متوسطي كما يرى البعض أن الفكرة مازالت غير واضحة المعالم و تحتاج لمزيد من الدراسة و التمحيص. تأمل تونس في أن تكون مقرّا للأمانة العامة للاتحاد من أجل المتوسط و هي قد حصلت فعلا على دعم فرنسي و لكن هناك سؤال. ألا يمكن أن يكون هذا المشروع مجرد وهم هدفه الايقاع بنا. نعم الايقاع بنا. فالجميع يعلم أن الاتحاد موجه للمتوسط. و لكن ألا يعتبر الأوروبيين إسرائيل دولة متوسطية؟ و إن كانت كذلك فهل هذا يعني أنها ستكون طرفا في المشروع؟ و بالرغم من أنني متأكد من أنها طرف و مهنية بالاتحاد خاصة و أننا سنسمع نفس الأغنية و هي أن هذا الاتحاد هو وسيلة من أجل دعم عملية السلام في الشرق في الأوسط و قيام دولة فلسطينية، و لكن ماذا عن الدول العربية التي لا علاقات لها مع تل أبيب؟ هل ستقبل تونس و الجزائر و ليبيا و لبنان و سوريا وجود تل أبيب؟ ثم إن وقع الاختيار على تونس حتى تكون مقر الاتحاد، فهل يعني هذا أننا سنرى العلم الاسرائيلي يرفرف يوميا في سمائنا؟
